About 3 years ago I bought a TV from a customer for whom I was doing some work for. Its a very nice Samsung. I never really got behind the thing because it was placed in my son's room. I was behind there recently and noticed that the set has the red, blue and green component jacks. I know its not an HD set. I was just wondering why a non hd tv had component jacks.

It is for 480P. DVD hook up. DVDs aren't HD, they are 480P. You could also hook up an HD satellite receiver to the component hookups. You'll get a great picture, just not HD. You would set the sat reciever to 480P

hooking itup for sound. mine has the same thing and I run it thru my Bose box (the little box they advertise on Tv all the time). should work for games too (some didn't have the game outlets on the front or side).

See, I do know something techinical!!!!!!! I am so proud of me.

lucy, that isn't what he is talking about. he is asking about a high resoution video component input connection, red, green, blue. what you hooked up is an audio composite output connection, yellow (video) red, white (left & right stereo audio). eddie will concur. if he ever read anything except politics.

I have AT&T uverse. All of their receivers have HD output. So now, Im using the component hook up. For kicks, I even added the HD programing. No HD, but the picture is a little better and the audio on those HD channels is better.
